4 Simple Ways of Staying Fit as a Family
Taking care of a family can be a tough job – but if you lead an active lifestyle and are full of energy, things get easier. Staying fit helps you cope with everyday problems and there is nothing more valuable than making sure your kids are healthy and fit as well. Sports are a great way to spend your family moments together and have lots of fun as well as ensure a healthy lifestyle for you and your family. Start today and make it happen with these simple tips!
1. Start early
It will be much easier to develop healthy habits as a family, if you start early. Once your children get used to spending their free time in front of the TV or the computer, it will be quite difficult to convince them to join you for a walk in the nature. If the only way you spend time together as a family is going to the movies or having an unhealthy lunch, a hiking trip will probably be out of the question for most members of your family.
So start as early as possible. Going out for a family lunch? Walk to the restaurant! Planning a weekend getaway? Your kids will love a trip to the mountains, where they can run around, enjoy wildlife and discover hidden corners. Want to have some fun? Visit a water park; you will have an amazing time as well as get some exercise.
If your children grow up with a sense of the importance of a healthy and fit lifestyle, it will be much easier for you to stay fit as a family – which, in return, will also help you stay fit for many years to come.
2. Make exercise fun
Squeezing exercise into your daily family routine will be much easier if you make exercise fun. If your kids do not like certain sports, try to shape them in a different way. Is a simple walk in the nature too boring for your children? Encourage them to try to spot wildlife, find colorful leaves or discover the best-hidden corners under the branches of the trees.
If your children are not the greatest sports enthusiasts, try motivating them with a little competition. A family tournament will surely be a great way to get them to try their best – you can even invite another family and make small trophies for the winners. Your kids will have a lot of fun as well as get a great exercise without even noticing it.
3. Get a family dog
A dog is a great way to make sure your children, as well as yourself, will have a more active lifestyle. Your children will spend more time outside in the fresh air while they play with the dog and walking the dog can become a family ritual.
However, you should keep in mind that a dog is not a toy so only make this decision if you are sure your children are mature and responsible enough to take care of the dog, and if you yourself also have enough time to make sure the dog is taken care of.
4. Work out at home
If your children do not really like to exercise, it might be difficult to start including sports in a daily routine. They are probably not fit enough to handle a real challenge, so they might not even be willing to try. A great way to start changing things is to work out at home; a few minutes here and there can make a lot of difference in the long run.
Get some soft dumbbells that will be useful for you as well as fun for your children, plus they will not ruin the floor if one of your kids accidently drops them. You can use them anywhere and with almost any exercise, so they will come in handy for getting the whole family back in shape.
Most of the children like cycling – why not get your children to try a stationary bike? Place it in front of the TV and encourage them to use it whenever they watch their favorite cartoon. It will also come in handy when you watch the news; just hop on and burn some calories while watching your favorite news show.
Exercise can also be a great way to spend some time together. You could try an exercise video to get the whole family moving right in the middle of your living room. You can also use your own weight and exercise as a family; perhaps you can make it a competition and see who the push-ups champion in your family is. An award for the winner? That will surely get you and the rest of your family moving!
